Duane Benson Consulting
Duane Benson is an IT consultant who has worked in the computer
industry since 1991. He began his career working on process control hardware and LAN installations at an electric utility
before he started developing web applications in 1996. Duane has since architected and developed many
large web applications for numerous clients in several countries.
Throughout his work experiences, Duane has worked within a
variety of environments where quality control and testing procedures have
ranged from non-existent to overbearing.
As a result, Duane has developed an interest in organizing software
delivery teams by using tools and procedures that encourage deliverables of
consistently high quality.
To accomplish Software Quality Assurance (SQA), Duane
typically focuses on areas such as: effective source control, unit testing,
centralized defect tracking, regression testing, stress testing and automated
build processes.Duane uses these types of
tools and procedures to co-ordinate the efforts of the various stakeholders in
the software development process.
Duane prefers the Agile approach wherever practical due to the
unpredictable nature of software development. Short iterations and a willingness to adjust the project parameters are
important factors in a successful software project.
Although sometimes contradictory with the
Agile approach, Duane also believes in continuous process improvement and the
principles of the Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI).
Duane considers client satisfaction an extremely high
priority and he has an excellent combination of business sense and technical
ability.
Although Duane considers the practice of SQA to be a key focus area, he routinely
fills roles such as project manager, business analyst, database professional, and architect/developer
for his clients. Duane is a Microsoft Certified Solutions
Developer (MCSD) and has extensive experience working with ASP, ASP.NET, SQL Server,
Sharepoint and other Microsoft technologies. In addition to his Microsoft experience,
Duane has successfully applied the same principles of quality in other technology areas.
